1. Two Numbers You Need Before Selection
Before selecting heat tracing cable, calculate two things: pipe heat loss per meter (W/m) and maintain temperature. Heat loss depends on pipe diameter, insulation thickness, lowest ambient temperature and wind speed - use industry formulas or manufacturer tables.
2. Choose Type by Maintain Temperature
Below 65℃ maintain temperature, prefer self-limiting cable (DBR series) - PTC auto-adjusts power and cuts to length. For precise constant temperature or long lines, choose constant wattage. Above 150℃ or harsh environments, choose MI mineral insulated cable.
3. Don't Forget Explosion-proof & Corrosion
Hazardous areas require explosion-proof cable with Ex junction boxes and thermostats. Acid/corrosive environments need protective sheaths. Keep 10-15% power margin for extreme conditions.
