Heat Tracing Control: Thermostat Sizing and Control Methods
Frequently Asked Questions
1. How is the thermostat capacity calculated?
Sum the wattage of all circuits on the thermostat and apply the manufacturer derating. For inductive or high-inrush loads a contactor is used rather than switching directly.
2. Mechanical thermostat or electronic controller?
A mechanical capillary or bulb thermostat is simple and robust for single circuits. An electronic controller is used where accurate control, remote indication or alarms are required.
3. Can temperature be monitored remotely?
Yes. Our control panels support RTD or 4-20 mA output to a DCS or SCADA system, with high and low temperature alarms.
4. Is ambient temperature control available?
Yes. Ambient-sensing thermostats are used for freeze protection; line-sensing thermostats for process temperature maintenance.
